Dance Company
Uchenna Dance Company (UDC) was formed in January 2009 under the creative vision of Vicki Igbokwe, after she was awarded an ADAD Trailblazer Fellowship (2007-2008). The company fuses Contemporary, Waacking, Vogueing, African and House Dance to create work that celebrates these styles, their technique and choreographic richness. By doing so, the company has developed a unique signature vocabulary and a repertoire of dance theatre pieces that take the audience on a journey through storytelling and investigations into issues and relationships within society today.
The fusion of the styles above form the distinct vocabulary Urban Contemporary
UDC is a resident company at Studio 1, supported by Selma Nicholls (Director - Creative Engagement)

*The Journey Part 1 (April 2009) looks at the struggle of two individuals whose lives cross on many parallels but never meet.
*The Journey Part 2 (April 2009) is an exploration into timing and rhythm looking at the interplay between dancers.
*A Day in the Life (May 2009) is a fictional story about a magical society where a queen rules her kingdom with an iron hand - no dancing, no smiling just work, work, work. She faces a rebellion amongst her people who want to live life and feel emotion.
* Life After (April 2010) was created after Vicki Igbokwe lost her mother to a 14 year battle with various illnesses. The piece looks at the rollercoaster that is the life of an individual after losing someone so close. This piece really begins to explore Urban Contemporary and music as a way of healing a broken heart and a focus for a lost soul.
* Roses (September 2010) is a commercial piece that celebrates the sounds of the 80's.
* Yori Yori (February 2011) a commercial piece set to Nigerian Pop Music, that transport you back to the motherland. Here you see a group of hard working young women, all mothers and wives congregate to celebrate life in their village, through music, dance and high spirits.
* What IS Woman? (March 2011) a dance theatre piece that explores what it means to be a woman. Does culture really play a part or is it all about what the media dictates?
* Moving Solo (April 2011) a solo that looks at moving in isolation.
*Company performances include: Synergy (Bernie Grant's Arts Centre), Live Vibe (Lillian Baylis), ADiaspora (Rich Mix and Middlesex University), Serious About Street Dance (Indigo O2) Greenwich Dance Cabaret (Greenwich Dance), Cultural Explosion (Rich Mix) and Resolution! at The Place Theatre.
