Mikkel Svak
Lighting Design And Production Management
Mikkel was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he studied the modern dance techniques of Jose Limon and Lester Horton, New Dance techniques and Contact Improvisation. Amongst his tutors were Risa Steinberg, Kevin Wynn, Milton Myers, Riccardo Morrison and Isobel Eisen. In 1998 he moved to London where he trained at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, and graduated in 2001.
Mikkel is autodidact in lighting design and technical theatre. He learned his craft through experimentation in his school theatre in Denmark from the age of 14, and through working with local youth groups, and was lucky enough to be invited to work for a number of professional theatres where he continued honing his skills as a designer.
Mikkel has worked across Europe as a choreographer and visual artist. He has designed lighting, sets and visuals for Mann Friday, Uchenna Dance, C-12 Dance Theatre, Paradigmz, Cloud Dance Festival, Outspoken Dance, Middlesex University, City & Islington College, Anna Williams, Kirsty Tapp, Shobana Jeyasingh, Mavin Khoo, Freddie-Opoku Addaie, Rashpal Sing-Bansal, Andile Sotiya, Diccon Hogger, Laesley Main, Tamara McLorg, Namron, Kim Brandstrup, Amnesty International (Denmark), Man Of The Year Awards (Denmark), Save Tibet Festival (Hamburg – Germany), HR Artworks, at venues as diverse as Roskilde Festival (Denmark), London Astoria, Shepherds Bush O2 Empire, Artsdepot, Hackney Empire, he Clapham Grand, Bush Hall, Arcola Theatre, The Place, Stratford Circus, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Southbank Centre, to name a few. In London he has shown own choreographic work at The Place, Chisenhale Dance Space, Riverside Studios and the Cockpit Theatre.
